With Dark Mode support coming to both Android and iOS in the weeks ahead, Microsoft is updating its core mobile and web apps.

“It’s an apt metaphor for why we love Dark Mode: Human needs unfold across an equally broad spectrum,” Jon Friedman writes in the Microsoft Design blog. “Whether you want to reduce eye strain, improve battery life, or it just has aesthetic appeal, Dark Mode exemplifies our ability to craft simple and powerful Microsoft 365 experiences that give you choice and flexibility.”

Microsoft previously brought a Dark Mode to Office 2010 on Windows, and Windows 10 has supported an inconsistent Dark Mode since last year. But today marks the start of a new Microsoft push to bring Dark Mode to the software giant’s mobile and web apps: Outlook for Android and iOS and Office.com on the web have all been updated to support a Dark Mode.

And when iOS 13 ships in September, Microsoft says it will bring Dark Mode to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, Planner, and To-Do on mobile. After that, Dark Mode will come to Planner and OneDrive on web as well.

“We’re building in capabilities so following the next round of OS releases on iOS and Android, Outlook will automatically switch to Dark Mode depending on the preference you set,” Friedman adds. “In the meantime, Outlook for Android automatically switches to Dark Mode when you choose Battery Saver. These perks all hold true for Dark Mode on Office.com.”
