Google Rolls Out January Update for Pixel
Google has announced the immediate rollout of its January 2023 update for Pixel, adding spatial audio support and other enhancements.
“We have provided the monthly software update for January 2023,” a Google Support post explains. “All supported Pixel devices running Android 13 will receive these software updates starting today. The rollout will continue over the next few weeks in phases depending on carrier and device. Users will receive a notification once the OTA [over-the-air update] becomes available for their device. We encourage you to check your Android version and update to receive the latest software.”
The big change with this update is support for static spatial audio, meaning surround sound that will work with any connected headset. A future update to Pixel Buds Pro will add support for spatial audio with head tracking in the coming weeks. But there are other enhancements, too, including improved fingerprint recognition and fixes for Bluetooth, audio playback, corrupted camera images, display waking, and landscape/portrait mode shifting. There is also the usual slate of security updates.
The January update is available for all supported Pixel phones. Globally, that includes the Pixel 4a, 4a (5B), 5, 5a (5G), 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, and 7 Pro.
