Apple Reportedly Working on ‘Plus’ Version of New Entry-level iPhone

Posted March 17, 2020 | Apple | iOS | iPhone | iPhone SE2 | Mobile | Windows

We have been talking about a new entry-level iPhone model from Apple for a while. Rumors of the new device appeared as early as September of 2019, and there’s been a couple of reports about the new device over the last few months.

And now, as we get closer to the potential release of the device, 9to5Mac has some interesting new information. It seems like Apple is not only working on a new 4.7-inch entry-level iPhone, but there could be a larger variant of the entry-level device.

The new line could replace Apple’s iPhone 8 devices. It’s not yet clear exactly what branding Apple will go for, but I doubt it’s going to be called the iPhone 9. Previous rumors pointed towards the iPhone SE2 branding, which would make the new line a successor to the original iPhone SE.

According to “leaked iOS 14 code”, the larger version of the device will feature a 5.5-inch screen display.  They will both feature Apple’s A13 Bionic chip, which is the same processor that powers the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. The devices will also feature Express Transit on Apple Pay.

These new features would easily make the new entry-level line really good upgrades for those still have the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7. They won’t feature Face ID, but they could still be a cheaper and solid alternative to the more expensive iPhone 11 line. Apple is expected to reveal the new entry-level iPhone sometime in Spring, but that could obviously change with all the concern surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak.
